Lakeside's Story
First Baptist Church of Saint Clair Shores began
in 1948 with nearly 40 people who desired to come together as
a church. In 1954, on the corner of Jefferson Ave and Deizel
St, where there was little else around, the first small church
building was built. Later on, that building would become the
gymnasium. In 1964, the Office and Education building was built,
and in 1970, the auditorium was built and the old building was
converted to the gymnasium.
As the church was transitioning from a traditional
style of worship to a much more contemporary style, the name
was changed to Lakeside Community Church. Dr. Ken Render came
to Lakeside in 1992, when there was about 60 members. His style
of teaching and leading the church was a perfect fit for the
new contemporary style.
Over the last decade Lakeside has developed
into a place where people do the ministry of the church. It
is a place where you can get involved in relationships with
others through small groups. Lakeside reaches out into the community
to see God impact the surrounding neighborhoods. Along with
the number of people attending church, the pastor staff has
grown as well.
Currently Lakeside is in its next major step
of growth as we are now meeting off the original campus site
at Lakeview High School and using their 1500 seat auditorium.
This is one of the initial steps to Lakeside building a new
building. Lakeside Church, however, is not a building or address--it
is the people that have come together to
LiVE FOR GOD, LOVE OTHERS, and REACH THE WORLD
for Jesus Christ.
